Our journey began on the sand volleyball courts at Baylor.
We were all waiting out a storm in Baylor’s Student Life Center before our intramural games could start. I knew a few people on Taylor’s team, so I went over to talk to them. I didn’t say much to Taylor that day, but I remember thinking, wow, she is beautiful and athletic. I have to get to know this girl.
That night, even though my team had lost, I didn’t care one bit. I came home telling my roommates all about this girl I had met. Unfortunately, it was right in the middle of finals and just before summer break, so the timing couldn’t have been worse.
After a little while, I decided to send Taylor a message on Instagram because it was the only way I knew I could reach her. We started talking and ended up texting all summer while she was abroad in Europe, and I was working an internship in Houston.
When we got back to school, her junior year and my senior year, I finally asked her out on a real date! I remember pulling up to her house already nervous, and those nerves only escalated even more when I walked in to find about ten of her friends sitting in the living room. But once we got to Cameron Park for our picnic, everything melted away. We talked for hours about anything and everything, and I was blown away by her pure joy and her heart for God.
Over the next few dates, I got to see even more of who Taylor is—her competitive nature, her amazing sense of humor, and her deep knowledge of God’s Word. When it came time to make things official, I came up with what I thought was a brilliant plan: I’d ask her to be my girlfriend on my birthday—because how could she possibly say no on my birthday, right? Thankfully, she said yes (thank you, Jesus!).
Throughout our relationship, I’ve grown to love Taylor more and more. I’ve learned so much from her servant’s heart, her unconditional joy, and her passion to become more like Jesus every day. I knew deep down that Taylor Handy was the woman I wanted to spend my life with.
And on February 7th, 2026, I found myself on one knee, one step closer to that dream becoming reality.
Thank you all so much for being a part of our community! We are so grateful for each of you, and we are so excited to celebrate with everyone on March 6th!
